A group of residents from Leesport and West Leesport met in Rahn’s Hall, Leesport, February, 1900 for the purpose of organizing a fire company. The official name adopted was “UNION FIRE CO. #1 OF LEESPORT.”
The first engine was purchased from The International Fire Company of New York City, at a cost of $637.00, in November of 1900. This was a hand pumper first drawn by manpower and later by horses. The engine was drawn by horses owned by members of the company. On a call to a barn fire in West Leesport, one of the horses dropped dead from exhaustion.
The Leesport Fire Company Junior Brigade was first organized in early 1961. Participation and membership dwindled and in 1970 the junior Brigade was reorganized. A large influx of members followed and the group ran smoothly until most of the members turned 21 and they joined the regular membership.

🇺🇸 Never Forget — September 11, 2001 🇺🇸
Today, the members of the Leesport Fire Company pause to remember a day that forever changed our country, our communities, and the fire service.
We honor the 343 firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority police officers, and countless other first responders and civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice. We remember those who answered the call that morning and never came home.
As volunteer firefighters, we know what it means to hear the alarm, put on our gear, and leave our families and loved ones to help someone in need. Their courage and selflessness continue to inspire us every time we answer a call.
We also remember the families who lost loved ones and the first responders who have carried the physical and emotional scars of that day for more than two decades.
At the Leesport Fire Company, we carry their legacy with us—in every call we answer, every time we put on our gear, and every time we stand together as a company.
We remember their sacrifice. We honor their service. We carry their memory forward.
